The Conservative's reasoning behind the ad campaign stated by Transport Minister John Baird is to,"ensure that Canadians know about the effects of Canada's Economic Action Plan and how taxpayers' money is being spent. The ads are high-impact ways for Canadians to learn about the projects in their area". In my opinion this explanation is a very logical one. I myself being a Canadian citizen would like to know how my tax money is being spent and how effectively.
To me the Liberals are just trying to make the Conservative parties campaign seem illegitimate when it will in fact help create jobs. In my earlier posts I talked about the government infrastructure program and how it was going to create more than 1000 jobs in the Niagara region by the expansion of Niagara college. That is just one example on how the Conservatives are going to help create jobs. Although I believe that the Conservatives are not perfect I do feel that they are trying to help out Canadians within these economic times, as opposed to helping themselves like the Liberals have shown to do in recent scandals.

Hey Chris,
ReplyDeleteI guess i just wanted to start off by saying first of all this ranting about the Conservatives is a federal issues, you can tell this by the fact that the conservatives havent formed government in ontario in over 7 years.
Second of all, im going to have to take the opposite side here. It is abbudantly clear that they federal conservative government is pushing the limits of the allowed advertising procedures. Yes it is important to ensure tax payers are aware of how thier money is being spent, and I would also agree that the government has a responsibility to make they public aware of this by any means.
I however take issue with the fact that the Federal Government is highly tainting this message with pro partisan coservative dogma. First of all you cant claim its a liberal smear job when you have well over 300 photos of Conservative members handing out "infrastructure money" and rather then displaying the government logo, it dispalys the conservative party logo with Stephan Harpers signature. In my opinion that is kind of pushing the line. The fact that the even the conservative appointed Ethics Commissioner has begun an investigation to determine how large scale this problem is, is just another factor that shows there is an issue.
Second of all you make it sound as if the Conservative Goverment is a god send to all Canadians. Let us just remember that after the big spending days of Brian Mulroney in the 1980's it look a Liberal government years to correct the nations finances. Conservatives had this nation broker then broke. We were well on our way to being under the financial perview of the IMF who would oversee our budgets until we paid back loans owed to them. IT was Chretien and Martin that brought this nation consequitive surpluses and economic growth.
And anyone can go and bitch about sponsership all they want. One issues in over 13 years of successful government, at least during those days we were a stable country fiscally. We averted a separation issue and in the end when they left office left this nation in suburb economic condition.
This current government has been marred by scandal after scandal, repeatly cutting corners and looking for the easy way to kill democracy (ending public funding of political parties), killing other parties is not and will never be in the best interst of the so called Canadians Harper apparently represents.
Sure there was a minor scandal with us WHO CARES, if Chretien would have been Prime Minister when that came out he would have flipped everyone off, noted it was he who saved our economy and kept our nation together and you know what, he would have got reelected again, becasue people like Jean Chretien, Pierre Trudeau and Lester B Pearson are the reason this nation is where it is and was once one of the most respected nations in the world.
....Today...Tomorrow for the forseeable future (Until an Election) we as a nation will not be at our best possible potential.
